An antique shidei (purple clay) pot with a deep, dark patina that has come from decades of use. A narrow and fairly shallow pot, it would be ideal for an elegant and tall conifer. There are several small chips and cracks in the pot befitting its age and use although it is perfectly usable and could be shown in any exhibition without question.
Although it is not signed, it is almost certainly a nakawatari pot, meaning it is around 200 to 250 years old, originally Chinese.
